Honeymoon Island State Park

Honeymoon Island is a quick drive over the Dunedin Causeway north of Clearwater. On the Osprey Trail today we saw virgin Slash Pine Trees, the tree that gave us turpentine many years ago.

In 1939 a New York developer bought the barrier island. He and Life magazine created a contest for newlyweds. The winning couple would start their married life in a small thatched barrier island bungalow. And so the island earned its name. Now most of the island is a state park where you can see the Great Horned Owl, Osprey and Bald Headed Eagles. The owl we spotted today was perched in a pine tree 40 feet overhead.

We are following news from Toronto and Ottawa. What a romp! Mayor Ford was tops in the news today - even here.
